Cookie Policy

This policy explains how bexleywebdesign.uk uses cookies and similar technologies. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and — on many sites — to track browsing behaviour for advertising. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in comparable ways and are covered by this policy too.

Our approach

We keep cookies to a minimum. Strictly necessary cookies (required for the site to function and stay secure) may be set without consent, as UK law allows. Analytics cookies are only ever set if you choose to accept them — when you first visit, a banner asks for your consent, and until you accept, no analytics cookies are placed on your device. Declining doesn’t change how the website works for you.

You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie Preferences link in the footer of every page, which lets you make the choice again.

Cookies this site may set

Analytics (with your consent only)

If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use our site — for example which pages are most popular and how people find us. Google Analytics sets cookies beginning _ga, which contain a randomly generated identifier (not your name or email) and last up to 13 months. We use this information only in aggregate to improve the website. If you decline, or simply dismiss nothing and never accept, these cookies are never set. See Google’s Privacy Policy for how Google handles this data.

Consent record

When you make a choice in our cookie banner, we set a single cookie (bwd_consent) to remember your decision for 12 months, so we don’t ask you on every visit. This cookie contains only the word “granted” or “denied”.

Security verification (contact form)

Our contact form is protected from spam by Cloudflare Turnstile. As part of verifying that you are a genuine visitor rather than an automated bot, Turnstile may set a cookie or use local storage on the contact page. This is used strictly for security verification and not for tracking or advertising. You can read more in the Cloudflare Turnstile Privacy Policy.

Website administration

This website runs on WordPress. If you log in to the site’s administration area, WordPress sets cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your screen preferences. These cookies are only set for site administrators — ordinary visitors will never receive them.

What we don’t use

  • No advertising or marketing cookies
  • No social media tracking pixels
  • No cookies that follow you to other websites
  • No analytics of any kind unless you have accepted it

For completeness: this site loads its typeface from Google Fonts, which involves a request to Google’s servers but does not set cookies. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How to control cookies

The easiest way to change your analytics choice on this site is the Cookie Preferences link in the footer — it clears your previous decision and shows the consent banner again.

You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings — you can block all cookies, delete existing ones, or be notified whenever a site tries to set one. Instructions for the most common browsers can be found in their help pages (search for “manage cookies” plus your browser’s name). Bear in mind that blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop the contact form’s security check from working.

Independent guidance on cookies and how to manage them is available from the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we add services to this website that use cookies (for example, analytics), we will update this policy and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before those cookies are set. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
